Why NASS should pass Whistle Blower’s Protection Bill -DR. M.K DIKWA mni.

The Founder/President of Al-Ansar Foundation, Dr Mohammad Kyari Dikwa mni, has called on the National Assembly to hasten the passage of Whistle Blower’s Protection Bill into law, adding that it is long overdue.

Dr. M.K Dikwa made the call in his presentation titled “Background to the Implementation of Whistleblowing Policy in Nigeria” at the ongoing 2021 North-West Zonal Whistleblowers Conference (from 13th-15th December 2021) at Coronation Hall, Government House, Kano under the chairmanship of the Honourable Minister of Finance, Budget and National Planing.

He said the bill, when passed into law would go a long way in encouraging whistleblowers to boldly blow the whistle when the need arises, and reinforce the belief that whistle blower’s safety is guaranteed from any harm, intimidation, and victimization.

Dr. M.K Dikwa, a retired Permanent Secretary (Special Duties), Federal Ministry of Finance, Budget and National Planning, also called on the National Judicial Commission (NJC) to ensure that there was high-level maintenance of incorrupt, independent, and uncompromising judiciary to avoid compromise of reported cases. He added that special courts and counsels should be created to handle corruption cases, and sanctions should be applicable to false disclosures done in bad faith.

According to him, fighting corruption is a global phenomenon that cuts across all social classes, races, culture, society, and gender, adding that there is a critical need for policies and programmes that would ensure the fight against corruption succeed.
